On Friday afternoon I met up with 3 of my best girlfriends from San Francisco at the Virgin America gate of SFO. We were headed to the Sasquatch Music Festival in central Washington state to spend 3 days and 3 nights listening to amazing music, hanging out outside on blankets on the grass all day, camping in a dirt pit at night, eating festival food and drinking festival beer and spending some good ole quality chill out time together.
We jumped onto an airplane with 6 very large bags (hey – camping gear my friends), picked up our shitty Dodge mid-sized SUV, and drove a couple of hours to Ellensburg, Washington where we stayed the night in an only slightly shady Comfort Inn. We woke up on Saturday morning to a mediocre continental breakfast, took our last shower for 3 days, hit the grocery store to stock up on PB&J and beer, and made our way to George, Washington to the very beautiful Gorge. We set up our campsite, unpacked the hula hoop, put on our best festival outfits and made our way in to the music.
We returned home very dirty and sleep and proper nutrition deprived on Tuesday evening with a lot of memories and adventure stories. I also came home with 500 pictures on my camera, of both us having fun and goofing around, as well as a series of outfit/festival style pictures. I am excited to share both with you here over the next couple of days.

To start off: festival fashion is a funny thing. Festivals aren’t exactly the most glamorous of places since most involve extreme heat, camping, porta potties, dirt fields and hangovers. However, they have amazingly turned into quite the fashion show. Most people attribute the extreme popularity of the Hunter rain boot to when Kate Moss was spotted wearing them at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2005. And the Coachella Festival in Indio, California, which draws a heavy L.A. crowd, is almost known just as much for its sartorial scene as it is for the music.
I have watched Sasquatch evolve over the years from a hippie burning-man scene to a more style-conscious place. This year, I was able to sift through the pocahontas headdresses, neon bikini tops and war paint to find some tidbits of cool, all American festival style. And here we go….

This must have been the first day, everyone looks so clean and shinny. What fun. What a pretty sun-lit sky!
