Did you watch the Emmys on Sunday evening?
I love watching the Emmys because it is so very often the most fun of the awards shows to watch. And it tends to have the best fashion. This year did not disappoint as there was a nice mix of pretty and safe and amazing and risky. After watching the show and soaking in the fashion live (literally), I spent a couple of days post-show going through all of the red carpet shots and have come to a verdict on my very own best dressed list. And here it is….
Lovely soft and drapey slim silhouette-d ladies:
Rose Byrne in Gucci – I always love the Australian Rose’s red carpet choices. She always does something different but it always somehow looks right on her (this may be due to her overwhelmingly delicate prettiness). I love her Emmy look – the non-vulgar cutouts, gold trim, train and of-the-moment matte teased hair (my favorite hair look).
Keri Russell in Vintage Scherrer from Decades – this was a controversial one. Everyone either loved or hated this look. If you read this blog often, you will know that I am clearly the former…. the color, the vintage 70s pleating, the hair flower. To me, she looks amazing. Everything I adore in one package. Plus, its Keri Russell, Felicity, and I just can’t help but love everything she does and/or wears.
Lauren Graham in Yigal Azrouel – I didn’t love this look until I saw Lauren present in it. Her look came alive on the stage and all of a sudden, I was sold. The draping of the black and white fabric looked so very pretty as she walked and the slit was sexy and she was wearing totally awesome black and white platform shoes. The look has an art deco feel and I am into it. Plus, notice her bracelets and chunky rings. Nice touch.

Girls with boobs and trains: Here are the two major risks I adored…
January Jones in Atelier Versace – call me crazy, but I love the futuristic boob plates and the windblown bob hair. Plus the color. I think she kind of looks amazing. I like to think of this dress as January Jones taking pretty 50s housewife full-skirted Betty Draper into the future. The whole look is a play with contrasts that strikes me as kind of brilliant (fancy full-skirted dress, undone hair; vintage 50s silhouette, futuristic breast plate and textured fabric; short in front, super long in back). The other thing is that January has the ability to look bland pretty easily – she is kind of just a good ole corn-bred All-American pretty blond chick. But she continually chooses not to play into this and instead takes her look to an entirely new level that sets her apart from all the generic good ole corn-bred All-American pretty blond chicks in Hollywood. And for that, I like her. And for that, and this too-cool look, she gets on my list.
Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen. Enough said, you know I love him. The intricate beading on the shoulder plates of this dress is out of this world (see pictures below). This is true haute-couture and Anna makes it work off the runway.

And then, the thing about the Emmys is that it has great parties… hello party town!
My invite must have gotten lost in the mail….
p.s. Jon Hamm – can I please marry you? You killed it in that opening skit.
