New York Fashion Week is now in full swing. A couple of big name designers have already sent shows down the runway (namely, Mr. Womenswear Designer of the Year, Marc Jacobs).
There are already several Spring/Summer 2011 trends popping out of the runway. Here is a round-up of what we/me are seeing so far: bright color color color grounded in pretty, soft, warm neutrals such a light beige-y pink as well as plenty of white. In terms of color, we are seeing a lot of purple – bright, royal blue-y purple. Metallics are also a color trend that we have seen in past seasons and are here to stay – golds, bronzes, silvers and even blues and reds. They are popping up in dresses as well as jackets, tops and pants.
Minimalism is still very much a trend, as well as tailored suiting separates mixed in with drapey knit goddess gowns for a kick of contrast.
That is about what we have so far. More coverage plus a photo collage story to come… In the meantime, feast your eyes of one of my favorite collections so far from a young designer who seems to be building quite the name for himself in the fashion world: Chris Benz. Chris is known for his beautiful use of color – lots of it, and in unique combinations of in each look. He is really not afraid to experiment with palettes and his genius with his color choices is always apparent. The other thing I appreciate about Benz is that he sends clothes down the runway that are both fun (fashion shouldn’t always be taken so seriously!) and wearable. His looks translate well into real life- you can imagine girls in New York or Paris (or anywhere else really) walking down the street in these clothes. Sometimes a rare thing in the fantasy world of fashion.
The collection he showed yesterday was inspired by “Americans in Paris” circa the 60s. Rave reviews. Bring on the Benz….

I love Chris Benz! He does colour so well. And I fell in love with the wide legged pants the moment I saw them–love the way they’re styled, too.
