I was lucky enough to have an honored guest come and visit me this weekend: My dad. We spent Saturday in the city before heading down to San Jose on Sunday to see my grandmother.
Dad and I had a great day together. We started off in Fisherman’s wharf on the water, hanging out with the tugboats. We stopped by San Francisco seafood institution Scoma’s to pick up up 4 servings of Cioppino to take to my grandmother’s the next day for Sunday dinner. My grandmother used to love to come to the city and have that soup, and Scoma’s was her favorite place to get it. We thought it would be a fun treat to take it to her. While waiting for our to go order, we made friends with the executive chef, Steve (some bonding over the Giants went down), who couldn’t have looked more like classic San Francisco North Beach Italian mafia.
Next we headed down the embarcadero to the Ferry Building for lunch at our favorite restaurant, The Slanted Door. If you live in SF and you have never been, you must go. If you don’t live in SF, you need to visit immediately and go. It’s that good. We ordered our 2 favorite dishes, the Shaking Beef and the Caramelized Prawns and drank delicious Huckleberry Mint Lemonade (which reminded me of all the huckleberry deliciousness from in my childhood summers spent in Priest Lake, Idaho – huckleberry grand central).
We walked off some of our lunch on an afternoon stroll through the park to enjoy a little nature in the city. The pond shimmered in the afternoon sun.
We were able to catch an early evening showing of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest movie (Dad and I have read all of the books) – I highly recommend it, it was amazing.
All in all, a great Saturday and a great weekend.
Grammy loved the Ciopinno, as did we.

I love the Slanted Door! When I was looking at Santa Clara for college my mom and I visited San Francisco and ate there – it was delish! And we happened to see Samuel L. Jackson while we were there, which is always a treat :) Glad to see you had a good weekend with your dad!

What a fun time with your Dad and Grandma last weekend. Scoma’s was always top of the list for my parents. Looks like the weather is still beautiful.
Love,
Robin
