It’s Friday and I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for cocktail hour (not that cocktail hour didn’t happen on Wednesday and Thursday this week, but it’s always better on Friday).
I have a new favorite cocktail: The Pisces.
It’s pretty perfect as I happen to be a Pisces myself and it’s made with a purple Berry & Violet liqueur, and purple is my favorite color.
Crème Yvette, the cocktail’s key ingredient, is a 100 year old liqueur that is made from parma violet petals and infused with hints of vanilla, berries and spices. It was discontinued in 1969 when tropical rum based drinks became all the rage and just re-released earlier this year by a small liqueur company in New York who also makes St Germaine Elderflower liqueur, another favorite of mine.
My mother received the liqueur and Pisces drink recipe as a gift from a friend this past summer (she had seen it in Bon Appetit magazine). Connie knew Mom (and I) loved a good champagne cocktail, as well as the fact that Mom is also a Pisces and loves purple. Connie ordered the liqueur over the internet from NY and waited months for it to come. I thank Connie for introducing us to this amazing drink (it really is delic) and Mom for sharing it with us on Thanksgiving (cocktail seen in pictures here).
I have already ordered myself a bottle and can’t wait to start making these for my friends during the holiday season.
Recipe:
1 ounce Crème Yvette violet liqueur
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
4 ounces Champagne or prosecco
1 lemon twist for decoration
1 Mix violet liqueur, lemon juice, and ice in a cocktail shaker.
2 Strain into a small glass.
3 Top with Prosecco.
4 Serve with a lemon-peel twist.
