I don’t know about you, but all this Fall fashion coming our way in the past weeks has me momentarily distracted from Spring dressing. At least we know come September we are in good fashion hands, because what has been coming down those runways is pretty darn fabulous. Cue the fur, the 70s jersey slink and the bright color.
Here are my favorites from New York. Three very different collections, all I’d like to own.

Altuzarra. I hope you brought your furrrr.
“It started with the idea of not having to think so much about clothes…. I wanted something longer and looser, something sensual and feminine, but utilitarian at the same time.” – Joseph Altuzarra
Mr. Altuzarra came out of the fashion woodwork this season with a collection that was pretty much the epitome and all anyone could talk about – undeniably modern, yet timeless at the same time. All the pieces looked comfortable, wearable, yet rich at the same time. Altuzarra was inspired by old photos of Kate Moss wearing parkas over her evening dresses with Johnny Depp as her best accessory. I love the high/low look of the party dress and parka – in fact, I actually rock slightly ironic this look on a near daily basis. Unexpected, yet practical. The other things I love about this collection is the rich earth tone color (coppers and rubys) offset with white, which is striking. And of course, as said before, the play with texture. Fur, satin, cableknit, zippers, sheer. And those fluffy shoes? Can I have please? swoon.

Halston. The 70s. They’re Back.
Halston was the doll of NYFW as it tapped into its brand heritage archive to flash us back to the 70s, which are currently having a major moment in fashion on a grand scale. Cue the jersey draping, clean long lines and fur chubbies and you’ve got yourself a Bianca Jagger (former muse to Mr. Halston himself) winner of a feminine look. I personally am into it.

Proenza Schouler. Welcome to The Cool Kids Club.
Once Again the boys of Proenza Schouler knocked it out of the park with an innovative and unique show that popped off the runway with color and just screamed cool. Jack and Lazaro were inspired by a road trip they took to Santa Fe – most notably the Native American textile patterns. The crafted their own versions of the iconic and historic geometric patterns on their computers and then “exploded them and.. pixelated them.” What came out was probably the coolest viscose knit and hand-painted panne velvet pants (and skirts) sent down the runway all week. An added layer of masculine cool edge is the uneven hems, half untucked shirts and slouchy, non-tailored fit. Throw in strong colorblocking, a heavy hand of black and some awesome statement necklaces ( I, of couse, love) and you have a fresh point of view that stands out and is pure Proenza S.
