I have always loved the Penguin Classic books with the illustrated covers that have been around the past couple of years. They are just so pretty, it makes the classic book that more special. Well the artist that does those book covers is Coralie Bickford-Smith and she has a new set of books coming out this month with Penguin called the Great Food series. All of the chosen books are “the finest food writing from the last 400 years” (says Penguin). Coralie was inspired by the ceramic styles from each book’s time period when she created each work of art cover. I wish I had a beautiful kitchen to display all of these in. Someday, le sigh….
…
the colorful covers and spines of each book also remind me of my other design dream: to have a color-coded bookcase full of colorful books
some of Coralie’s other beautiful & endearing work…
(cover of irish poetry book, adorable text tea towel, book cover design – look close, the people are flowers!)

I always love a good bookshelf. I’m not kidding. I always get giddy when I see really colorful, well decorated bookshelves in design mags. Does that make me weird? Also, I love the cover art on these books – they’re so sweet!
