I’m literally en Vogue! Okay not me per se… but my hometown is! Bainbridge Island, where I grew up, is featured in this month’s Vogue (June, Penélope Cruz) in their ‘America the Beautiful’ chic getaway feature on pg 135! Kinda crazy as our little island feels like a beautiful little unknown secret part of the universe sometimes. I can’t believe Vogue found it (do you think I missed Anna’s visit?!!), and this feature made me say ‘ahhhhh’ and miss it a bit.
The hilarious part of this article is the fashion spread accompanying the Northwest feature. For some reason Vogue thinks that everyone in Seattle is stuck in Nirvana’s 1992. Cue the lumberjack plaid shirt tied around the waist, backpacks and a dark, dreary color palette. A Seattle feature is surely the only time Teva shoes will ever be featured in Vogue – wonder how that got past Anna. I actually kind of think the Marni ‘sleeping bag’ cape (above right) is kind of awesome, and I would totally rock it, but my god it’s $1245. I checked the REI website and the most high end state-of-the-art full sleeping bag (complete with 800-fill-power goose down) they sell is $700, and its good for a lifetime spent in the Himalayas. I highly doubt this Marni cape would even keep me warm on a Spring evening in San Francisco. Alas, I give Vogue some credit for trying to be authentic and “disarmingly down-to-earth” (their words). But just so you all know, Seattle isn’t all oversized lumberjack plaid (ok…maybe just a little bit, but cutened up- see here), there are some seriously stylish ladies in and from that city. Including, Ahem, yours truly (me!) and can’t forget this guy. So, if you decide on a chic getaway to Seattle and Bainbridge Island (which I think you should, you won’t be disappointed), just know that there will be sun (really! I promise! Summer is gorg in Seattle) and you can wear white if you do so wish. And don’t forget your lipstick, jewels and high heels. You’ll need them, if not for hiking Snoqualmie Falls (stunning), then for a night out on the town.
Sharing with you here some photos I took of Bainbridge and Seattle from visits last Summer and Thanksgiving

Tell me.. have you ever visited/lived in and loved Seattle? Do you only wear plaid?

Thank you for taking the cloud away from that article, especially the lead in line…”go hike Bainbridge Island”. BI is the size of Manhatten!
